Microdermabrasion is principally a deep cleansing, exfoliating technique using a handpiece with embedded diamond chips and an adjustable vacuum. It mechanically exfoliates the upper layers of non-visible skin cells which is forcibly directed through the handpiece under vacuum suction which is quite comfortable and can be performed without anaesthesia. By doing this it can stimulate the collagen production in the dermal layer. Prior to the procedure the skin is cleansed and is fully prepared to remove all oils, sunscreen and make -up from the skin.
A treatment plan will be designed for you which will encompass appropriate treatment intervals and expected number of treatments according to your skin type. All consultations are confidential, and we discuss the areas that are causing you concern.
Treatments are usually performed weekly / fortnightly depending on the condition that is being treated to begin with then it is conducted every 2-3 weeks and there is no “downtime” so you can return to your normal activities immediately with slightly pink and a healthy “glow”. Treatments usually take approximately 30-60 minutes.
After your procedure it is normal to see the area that has been treated initially red and this is due to the increased circulation, it usually disappears in 12-24 hours. All skin types respond differently.
Ensure the area that requires treatment is free of open wounds and cold sores and that the skin is not red or inflamed/ no active acne/eczema/rosacea or sunburn.
Please advise our Health professional if you have had Roaccutane recently or are using topical Retinoid as Microdermabrasion may aggravate the small blood vessels on the face.
Your skin may feel slightly sensitised for a few days to other topical make up and it is best to leave make-up and retinoids for 3-4 days.
Once the treatment plan has been completed skin maintenance is usually recommended every six weeks to two months and should be combined with your daily skin care regime at home.
