Platelet Rich Plasma

What is PRP (Vampire Facial) and how does it work?

PRP also known as 'Vampire Facial' is a sought after non-surgical procedure for facial and skin rejuvenation. It is treatment that uses your own blood platelets to stimulate new cellular growth thereby increasing skin texture, complexion and facial volume. It has been used for decades for wound and soft tissue healing.

Our blood is made up of Red blood cells, White blood cells, plasma and platelets. We take your blood and spin in a centrifuge which enables separation of blood cells from plasma and platelets.

PRP has concentrated levels of regenerative growth factors used to stimulate skin healing and collagen production.

PRP can also be used to treat thinning hair and hair loss particularly male pattern baldness.

Applications for PRP

  • Treatment of Acne Scars
  • Treatment of Surgical Scars
  • Treatment of Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improvement of skin texture

What is the procedure

Depending on how many areas that are to be treated, 10-30mls of blood will be taken. The blood is the centrifued for 5-10minutes. The cells are then separated the platelet rich plasma is extracted and this is injected into the skin. It can be combined with micro needling or soft tissue filler.

What to expect during treatment

The platelet rich plasma is injected to the face or area of the skin to be treated. Mild discomfort during the injection (Topical Anaesthetic can be used).

What to expect post treatment

After the procedure most people will experience temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and a feeling of pressure or fullness at the injection sited. Gentle skin care is recommended post procedure.

How soon will I see results?

Most clients will require three treatments at four to six week intervals. The first thing people notice improvement is skin turgor and elasticity and results can last up to 24 months.

Maintenance every 6 months.

Other factors such as smoking, stress and other medical comorbidities may affect this.

Are there reasons why I can't have PRP?

Ladies who are pregnant, breast feeding, people on anticoagulant therapy, skin cancer in area being treated, thrombocytopenia, platelet dysfunction, acute/chronic illnesses.
